Create a goal (Target) and track your performance

Set numeric goals on your key KPIs (ARR, MRR, etc.) and compare your actual performance to these targets to steer your business with precision.

Setting goals and tracking their achievement is a key habit for steering a recurring-revenue business. In Fincome, all the management of your goals (creation, modification, deletion, tracking) is done from the Compare > Target button above each chart.

Step 1 — Open the goals interface

  1. Open the chart on which you want to create or track a goal.
  2. Click Compare above the chart.
  3. Select Target.

Fincome then displays the list of existing goals for this metric. You can:

  • Select an existing goal to display it as a comparison.
  • Edit an existing goal by clicking on it to adjust its values.
  • Create a new goal via the Add a goal button.

Step 2 — Fill in the goal's information

The My goals window opens. Fill in:

  • Goal name — "New goal" by default; customize it so you can find it easily (e.g.: Budget 2026, Ambitious MRR goal).
  • Goal color — the display color of the goal line on your chart. Handy if you track several goals in parallel, to tell them apart visually.

Step 3 — Choose the goal type

Two types are available:

Single value
An identical target value every month.
Example: a target MRR of €1M — the value remains constant over the whole period.

Dynamic goal (recommended)
Variable target values, entered month by month, to reflect a realistic growth trajectory.

A monthly table is displayed. For each month:

  • Click in the cell of the desired month to enter the goal's value.
  • Use the [Tab] key to move quickly to the next month's value.
  • Navigate between periods with the left/right arrows above the table to enter goals over several years.

Step 4 — Save

Click Save at the bottom right to validate your goal. It then becomes available in the Target list of the Compare button.

To delete a goal, open it from Compare > Target, then click Delete the goal at the top of the panel.

Step 5 — Track your goal

Once the goal is selected as a comparison, Fincome displays:

  • The goal line overlaid on your actual curve (in the color you chose).
  • The achievement percentage period by period.
  • A color code at a glance: green if the target is reached or exceeded, orange/red otherwise.

FAQ

Can I create several goals on the same metric?
Yes — useful for example to track an "ambitious" goal and a "floor" goal in parallel. Each will appear in the list of the Target tab when selecting.

Can I edit or delete a goal after creation?
Yes. Go back to Compare > Target, click on the goal in question to adjust its values, or click Delete the goal at the top of the panel to remove it permanently.

Why choose a dynamic goal rather than a single value?
The dynamic goal (recommended by Fincome) reflects a realistic growth trajectory month by month, whereas the single value applies the same figure to every month. To steer an MRR or ARR that evolves over time, the dynamic goal is almost always more relevant.

What is the difference between a Target and a Forecast?
A Target is a simple goal (single or dynamic value) that you enter manually on a given metric. A Forecast is a more complete forecasting model, based on assumptions for growth, churn, expansion, etc., which produces projections across all your KPIs.
